MoM - Superb all round TEAM performance by Colours but led strongly by a bull-like Nii. Belligerent in front of goal and marshalled his troops expertly

Report

"THERE IS NO 'I' IN 'TEAM'

The above sums up the most complete Team performance witnessed on Tuesday night in quite some time by Colours last night. The sum of their parts was greater than the individual ability that Whites had and overall they thoroughly deserved their "W".

Whites with the UCL Mafia started preceedings at breakneck pace with shots raining in from Jimmy Liang, Conor and Sam. Just when Colours were about to lose the plot (with the usual tete-a-tete between the Dads to be - Dimi and Rajesh) Nii and Sunny grabbed the game by the scruff of neck and FOUGHT back.

High energy running off the ball by The Black Star enabled him to latch on to pass after pass from Dimi and Rajesh and power finishes past the hapless Whites' keepers leading to Whites' 3 goal lead evaporating. To be honest the lack of communication from Whites cost them but their lack of 'going back to basics' and man-marking Nii and Sunny cost them.

That said, let's not underestimate the complete performance by Colours. Rajesh showed the aggression and a never say die attitude with crunching tackles and clever passes. Vish continued to get stuck in and destroy play (and continued his trademark cul-de-sac passes in the corner). Sunny continued his rehab by continuning to get rid of all the bullsh*t skills Jai taught him. Dimi continued his fine defensive work. And The Black Star was back with a bang after people started calling him "Evander" and "Foreman"

For the UCL Mafia it is back to the drawing board somewhat. Communication needs to be improved on as well as the ironing out of silly mistakes. I fear someone will get a going over in a few weeks when these issues are addressed. Till then au revoir!

MoM - Slighly off centre but Aman. In a team of 8/10s Aman slightly edged everyone with his tackling, distribution and energy levels. With Easter approaching the members of Tuesday Night Footy are looking to enroll him in the "Shooting for Beginners" course at the Bobby Charlton Soccer School. Sunny's already booked in for the "First Touch for Beginners" course!

Report
With another UCL Academical Conor joining the ranks of Tues night footy the omens were not good for Whites as Jimmy Liang, Conor and Sam popped the ball around with pace and accuracy. With Rajesh playing QB Colours quickly took the lead whilst Whites were still finding their feet.

The usual cajouling and motivation from Manu enabled Whites to dust of the cobwebs and begin to set the tone for the evening.

Constant talking and good energy to get men behind the ball enabled Whites to nullify Colours and although some horrific finishing from Whites meant they had a one goal lead for quite some time there was no immediate danger of them surrendering their lead.

Amit and Rajesh kept perservering by trying to get the UCL Mafia to explode but Sunny and Aman kept defusing any counter attacks. Dimi, Rush and Manu linked up well and kept picking passes and when Whites did manage to find the net their lead extended.

As Manu commented the pace of the game has increased and although that brings some tension to the "water carrier" game of Rush it should promise some tasty encounters when pr1cks like Stas are back from hols!
Onwards to next week. Toodle Pip!

MOM - Since I cant vote for myself, I might as well give it to who I thought was the next best player on the pitch Nii. The black star protected, distributed and held up the ball well linking in his team mates for an all round performance.

With many regulars out watching Arsenal destroy Porto, it was left to others to ensure the level of football didn't drop.
The game started late with Jimmy delayed from his Kung Fu practice, which ment he started off in goal.
Kick off

Quick start to the game made it difficult for either side to get settled and to put their chances away, a good finish by Dimi
put the colours ahead. 0-1. Whites quickly responded to bring it level, the colours were undone by pressing high up the pitch and leaving Rush free at the back to coolly slide one past the keeper. Level.

Colours move the ball about well and managed to put themselves ahead through a bit of luck, with a deflection off Simon. 1-2. Both teams knew they had to defend better if they wanted anything out of the game, which lead to no goals for roughly 20 minutes. But many chances were created by both teams, colours denied by good keeping and the whites denied by the frame of the goal - Stats putting himself in good contention to win the cross bar challenge on Soccer AM on the weekend.

Nii got the colours moving and helped create space for Jimmy to let off a classic which the keeper could only parm it in to his own net. 1-3. Sloppy defending from the colours (again) let the whites back into the game. 2-3.
I picked out a eye of the needle pass to give Stamos the time and space to put it beyond the keeper. 2-4.
Couple of quick fire goals from Jimmy and Nii got the colours 4 ahead.

At the end of it the whites pressed hard to close down the gap in goal difference and spaces on the field. They managed to get a late goal but the game finished with the colours 3 up. On another day the result could have gone to the whites but it was the 2 inches of the frame work which didn't let it happen.
Anyway on to next week.....

MoM goes to Sunny - Not banking on it but quite possibly the penny dropped last night for Sunny and he's realised his best role is as a destroyer of play a la Mr Claude Makelele. I hope he understands this but chances are he'll mis-control a few more 2 yard passes in weeks to come!

With a somewhat makeshift lineup Colours seemed the underdogs last night but with Sam leading the effort (on the back of 3 straight W's) and Jimmy 'The Ninja' Liang back from 3 weeks RnR in his homeland Colours appeared to enjoy the underdogs tag!

Whites started off sprightly with Dimi, Sunny, Stas linking up well but a "peach" from Vas opened up proceedings and stunned Whites. Nevertheless Whites plugged away and equalised before stretching their lead to 2.

Colours gamely kept in touch with new arrival Stam and James hitting a few 'sighters' but Whites had a little more cutting edge with Dimi back to his impish best. Rajesh tried to get Colours playing by instigating play but he was slightly below par and some dogged defending kept Colours at bay.

Vas then popped up with another howitzer that seemingly went thru Dimi's hands to close the gap to 1 but Whites turned on the after burners and restored a 2/3 goal lead. Colours to be fair had their chances and usually clinical James should and could have snaffled a few goals but Whites kept their heads and cool to ensure that they weren't another victim of 'The Ninja.
